Periyar Tiger Reserve:

Aside from the Periyar Tiger Reserve, visitors can engage in a wide range of activities in the Thekkady region, including fascinating sightseeing excursions.

Nature and Green Walk:

The 4-5 mile, 3-hour trip is part of an educational sandal wood protection trekking program that offers great chances to see birds, butterflies, and other animals moving across a variety of habitats. These hikes follow a variety of the Park's natural pathways. Each trip may have up to 5 participants, each of whom must be escorted by a qualified tribal guide.

Cloud Walk:

A panorama of grasslands, evergreen, deciduous, and riverine forests, as well as vast stretches of land irrigated by the Periyar River, the Cumbam Valley, the heights of Mangaladevi and Kumarikulam, the escarpments of the Fort of Periyar, and the Palani hills in the distance, can be seen from a vantage point on this trek. There's a chance to see several endemic species including the broad-tailed grass bird, the Nilgiri pipit, and tree nymph, as well as certain habitat-specific birds and butterflies.

Tribal Heritage Museum:

Jungle Scout:

A three-hour night walk is planned as part of this program, offering a unique chance to see some of the fascinating nighttime wildlife of the Thekkady forest, including flying squirrels, civets, mouse deer, and other nocturnal bird species.

Border Hiking:

A day-long range walk around the Periyar Tiger Reserve's boundaries is planned. The path winds across rolling hills at elevations between 900 and 1300 meters, providing hikers with views of the park's high escarpments, watersheds, and the expansive expanses of Cumbam Valley below. Aside from birds and butterflies, sightings of gaurs, sloth bears, and elephants are common.

Bamboo Rafting:

This hiking and rafting program takes you through some of the richest forest regions of the Periyar Tiger Reserve, from sunrise to nightfall. Beginning early in the morning, it passes through a variety of woodland ecosystems that are home to a wide variety of birds, arboreal creatures like giant squirrels and Nilgiri langur, herds of elephants, and gaurs.

Periyar Tiger Trail:

Naturalists on the Tiger Trail are in the capable hands of a group of seasoned guides intimately familiar with the forest. They are now a part of PTR's protection force, having once been poachers who were changed into the forest's guardians. This is an exciting one-night-two-day and two-night-three-day camping and trekking program.

Tribal Art Performance:

The Mannans, Palliyans, Malayarayans, Mala Pandarams, Urails, and Ulladans are among the indigenous tribal people who call the Periyar Tiger Reserve home. It is a paradigm for peaceful coexistence between these communities across the globe. Witnessing the rich cultural history of Paliyan and Mannan dancers is made possible by this unique experience offered by the tribal heritage performance.
