There are two routes which can take one from Mumbai to Mahabaleshwar. The NH 66 highway and the Mumbai Pune Expressway. While the latter is longer, by NH 66 you can reach your destination in about 5 hours. 

By train 

There is no railway station present at Mahabaleshwar hence, one needs to get off at Satara Railway Station first. This is about 70 km from Mahabaleshwar. You will find buses and rental taxis from here. 

By flight 

You can also take a flight from Mumbai to Mahabaleshwar if you want. Lohegaon Airport in Pune is the closest to here you again need to travel by road to reach Mahabaleshwar.
